This is a dark day!

Happy Weekend Evfurry Buddy!  This has been a rough day for me and my Mom.  She decided this was the day she was going to groom me, coat, feets and get rid of mats!  I said, no, please, you are not good at this and my coat is just fine.  She said sure its fine to you, you shed all over and I am the one who has to vaccum everyday, twice a day sometimes.
She starts out pretty good, she cuts a couple of hot dogs in round things, and puts them in a bowl.  Then she starts brushing me, and when I can't handle it anymore, she gives me a couple of the wiener pieces and lets me go sit for a while.  Then she calls me back and starts on my feeties, she starts cutting nails and I jerk away and she cuts the quick!!! Ow, ow, ow! It hurts and bleeds.  I give her a piece of my mind and she lets me go lick it for  a while.  That was my second front foot so she just leaves me alone and starts brushing my butt area, which I really hate!  But she says we have to do it.  So its the same song and dance as above, she brushes, I get mad and move, and she gives me some wienies and I come back and let her go again.
She winds up with a plastic grocery sack full of my hair and toe nails, and still she won't quit.  She says there is no point in quitting until the wienies are gone!

There has to be a better way than this!  I know you will say she should take me to a professional groomer, but, uh, I got kicked out of one and she won't take me back.  So on we go with our battle!

Do any of you get on with your pawrents like this?  I love my Mom except on that one day she hauls out her grooming tools.  Then I would like to run away from home!  We would both like some good advice about this.

Its nice and cool here today with sunshine and blue skies.  The trees should be getting very pretty very soon.

Ali Z (Zkhat) says hello to her sweetie Tober the Library Cat and I send hellos to my very special friend Tsar of the Portie Pack.

Good wishes to all of you and happy autumn.

Kisses,

Stella, Mom and Zkhat

Oh oh Stella from Up Over, I don't like the sound of that. I haven't had to be groomed yet but my angel sissy Kara went to a groomer about every five months and she didn't care at all. At least its all done till next time. Bet you look sweeter than ever now. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Stella, look at how beautiful you look - we just love that gorgeous sheen on your furs. None of us really loves to be brushed either, we don't get mats, but we hate that darn brush. Some days it isn't so bad, when we are really mellow and relaxed. Thunder likes it about the best. Lightning - forget it, he bites the brush - BOL.

Hope you are having some nice fall weather.

My Dearest Stella,
Keep up the fight! Never give in even for hot dogs. When I see someone pick up a brush I start making squeely noises and stare them down.

The other day they ganged up and tricked me. Mom put a leash on me so I thought I was going for a walk, but she took me on the deck and held my collar while Dad tried to trim my back legs. First I stood there in shock, but pretty soon I started squirming and twisting and as soon as I got my head loose, I tried to nip the brush out of his hand.

It's my fur. I grew it and I plan to keep it. You have to be strong so they don't steal your fur.
Love,
Tsar

Oh boy...we know all about these terrible days. We are supposed to like being groomed, but mama doesn't do such a good job either. She tries...just like yours, but we do not like it. Then, when it is really bad, she takes us to the groomer. She is a nice lady, but we would prefer just to grow our furs out really long and never have to go to the groomer. And DON'T touch our feet!!! Our sympathies!!! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug

You look gorgeous Stella, and those shorter nails are much safer for you (prevents split nails which are super painful, according to my R).

I don't have any big tricks. With K, she gets a treat for each nail that I clip. If she tries to pull away her paw, I never let go so that she learns that struggling gets her nowhere. For R, we use a machine called a "Mannersminder" to distract him while I clip his nails. It delivers a treat (kibble) every few seconds. He gets completely obsessed with it so I can do anything to him while that machine is going!

Brushing my pups isn't hard because they don't mat. But, during shedding season, I brush them just a little at a time. Otherwise, they get frustrated with it.

I'm sorry that you had a "dark day". I really hope that the situation improves!

I hates being brushed too Stella! I bite the brush and make snarly face. Mum takes me to the groomer now, but she keeps up with it by brushing me a little bit everyday so I doesn't get fed up with a long session and treats during. Also I a lot more well behaved on a table or something like that. I has never had my nails cut though. I feel your pain!

Oh Stella, Stella, Stella...
For every ouch, give your Mom a lick.
For every agony, give her two licks. She knows it hurts, and she is hurting inside, too.

And licks solve everything - whether a knicked nail/quick, or a frustrated Mom. But if she licks you back? hmmm, be concerned!

Oh poor you Stella, Dippy Pip gets that sort of treatment too.
Not me though John would love to get a brush on me, but I will not have it. John is scared he hurts me because of the bad treatment I had.

Oh, Stella, you had a really rough day. I had a cocker spaniel that I used to go round and round with when I cut her hair and did her nails. It was not fun for either of us. I hope you recover quickly from your rough day.

I feel your pain, Stella. My mom is terrible at cutting my nails and I put up quite a stink when she tries!

Thanks so much for your kind comments for Sweet Pea and Buddy. We so appreciate your support, thanks!

Your pal, Pip

Well, Stella, I think the weenies are a nice bribe, but only if your mom (a) learns to cut your nails without hurting and (b) leaves your butt area alone. I think the rest would be tolerable, especially if the weenies are anything like fish flakes.

To Ali Z: Do you let your mom groom you? I let them furminate me here, but only on whatever side is showing. If they want to furminate the other side, they just have to wait until I'm turned that way.

Purrs and headbutts,

Tober

Mom does a pretty good job...you look marvelous, dear girl! And you two seem to have a system that works pretty well...treats and hugs and lots of breaks.

You're looking so pretty, Stella! Your Mom can really groom you well so it is worth the struggle.

We also don't enjoy the nail cutting part especially Princess. Good thing we zoom zoomies a lot so most of us get our nails filed as we run around.

Enjoy your week, Stella!

Oh Stella we're being quite the drama queen today aren't we. I mean it's only a hairbrush for heaven's sake!
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS Smart move, to wangle all those wienies, I will admit.
