Happy Independence Day to everybuddy!
On Saturday, Mom's friends Suzanne and Glen invited us to come and share supper at the lake cottage. We said yes as long as it was early enough not to have a lot of Boomers going on and they said it was!
So Suzanne and Glen and I played in the lake, and it was sooo nice and cool there. We really had a good time, while Mom took pictures.
After a while, we started cooking burgers and brats on the grill and fixed up salad and the rest of what we wanted. When we finished eating, there was a burger and a brat left over and I, Stella, got both of them. Talk about yummy!
There was a very tall purple martin bird house and we all enjoyed watching the birds and talking to each other.
Then, one kind of bad thing happened, the neighbor, about 30 feet away (I am only guessing here) set off a fireworks bomb, that exploded and made a huge bang noise, and lots of smoke! I was really scared and I barked a whole lot at that guy. He knew we were all sitting right where we were! Glen knows that I am furry scared of those things, so he talked to me and got me a little settled down.
Then when we got home, I was still a little nervous, and don't you know some boomers started up in the neighborhood and lasted until furry late in the night. So I got up on my Mom's bed and slept there and barked, and slept and barked. My Mom wishes we could make fireworks illegal!
But we sure had a good time and a good supper visiting Suzanne and Glen and swimming in the lake!
Wishing you a Happier (and quieter) Fourth!
Stella

Woof! Woof! Happy 4th! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
It seems like there are always stupid humans that ruin a good day with a lot of noise.
The lake sounds like a great place to be! The noise is always bad where we live. Happy 4th of July! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly
We think it was so nice of your Mom's friends to invite you both over. What a lovely lake!!! Bet that brat and burger tasted really good. We don't like the boomers either but we will be staying home and inside tonight. Just as fun to watch them on the TV and control the volume:)
Happy 4th of July!!!
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Wow, Stella, that sounds like a great day, except for the booming. A burger and a brat! What a lucky girl you are. Isn't it fun to play in the water on a hot day?
Morgan, Tsar and the Porties
That lake looks perfect! Fireworks ae illeagle here (fire danger) but idiots still light them off and on before and after the 4th. Hope you get some sleep tonight; both of you!!

Hi, Stella!
Sure you all had a great time there in the lake.
Great friends, yummy food and lots of fun... until the boomers started, right?
Sorry they scared you!
I hope you had a nice and quiet 4th of July!
Kisses and hugs

Playing in the lake with friends, then burgers and brats - I thought you were having just the perfect day until I read about the loud bangs. Stella you really need to come over to Scotland for the 4th July holiday weekend.
Toodle pip!

Hello Stella, my name is Stella too. I would have very very scared of those loud noises too. I'm glad you had some yummy food but what is a brat? Nice to meet you. No worries, and love, Stella
i am happy you had a good day but not happy about the boomer!
Whoa! Next year I am coming to your party. Swimming, no fireworks, burgers and brats? Sounds like a dream come true!
Steve
We agree about getting rid of the fireworks. None of us like them but YoYoMa gets really terrified and howls and spins in cirlces with ears flat and eyes rolled back.
The day sounded so wonderful other than that...time with friends, a bbq that you got to share in, and a cooling swim.Hope mom got some beautiful photos.
Aw we are sorry such a great day was spoiled by bangers.
We are glad we do not celobrate the 4th of july.
We wish we could ban fireworks as well.
Gosh darn, Stella - a burger AND a brat? And then boomers???? MORAL of the story - don't eat brats and boom!

Arrow Here.
When the sky boomed did u get the shakes, Stella? My friend Rowdy does every time boom-day comes. He even shakes when it thunders! But we were lucky dogs this year...we had a Burn Ban! We didn't even have to see the fireworks trailors parked in our favorite potty spots this year. No one even WANTED to sneak in a pop or two cuz we had a close call with a wild fire right by our house and everyone just saved their money. No one was taking chances this year...but we do wish we had just a little rain. The grass is starting to hurt my little tootsies when I go outside and a Boston Terrier can only take so much heat...then we turn into oreos I am told. :)
What a beautiful place to spend the Fourth of July Holiday! I'm so sorry your peace was disturbed. I hope the burger and brat eased your anxiety just a little.

Indy agrees. Fireworks are not fun. Thanks for visiting us at Critter Alley. We've signed on as your newest followers!

Thanks for the encouraging words; they are sorely appreciated right now! We do have Patricia McConnell's books and have been using them as our pack reference. Did not know she had a blog...will visit and beg for insight.
Nice lake adventure!
Cheers,
Maxx
P.s - Thank you for your kind words for Muffin.
Hi Stella! We understand how you feel about the boomers. July 4th has come and gone but every day since, the sky has gotten dark and the boomers remain!
Thank you so much for your votes for Raising Ruby in the Petties Awards. We are so grateful for your help in raising awareness for service dogs and helping us try to win $2000 for Golden Retriever Rescue!
