This day for me started with a walk to the lake with my little Scottie Otis, the weather was so perfect, just like today, sunny and warm. We walk a mile to the lake, and a mile back home. All the time, I am thinking about how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful country, our own little slice of a perfect place to be. Otis had a lot of friends, so we got greeted a couple of times, by yard workers, people who got out early to rake up leaves.
No one else to talk to though, just Otis and I, proclaiming a perfect autumn day. When we got home, I made a cup of coffee, gave Otis a treat, and sat down at the computer to check e-mail. I never watch daytime TV or especially the morning shows!
My first letter came from a dear young person in Norway, whom I knew from a quilt list., Sol Stensland. Sol had wonderful quilting talents and I loved to visit her website to see what was new. But today she was saying she felt such pity and sorrow for my Country in the wake of the attack on this day! What could she be speaking of? I got up from my chair, hurried to the livingroom and turned on the TV only to see giant clouds of smoke and rubble going down a New York street. Then a replay of the airplanes hitting the huge skyscrapers. Then, spending much of this day, in front of the television, my heart aching for those who were searching for family and friends, for the lost firemen and policemen. Seeing the Pentagon hit, and wondering
about the rest of the World. How far could this go? Who would be next?
I thought too about the smallness of the world where a friend from Norway could send me the news of this tragedy before I heard from anyone else.
Thats my little story. It seems we all have them, the Where Were You When...stories. I don't quite know how to end this except to say I am so grateful for all of the people who protect us from more 9-11s, our military who have given us and given up so much over these years. I am also grateful for all the internet friends I have, I feel so enriched by them all.

I received a number of wonderful, caring emails from people around the world who were on knitting and dog lists that I belonged to. I kept them in a folder and will post some of them someday, maybe next year. It was so loving to receive such mail from people I had never met, but who felt the same feelings we were experiencing.
A day never to be forgotten....
This is the first year where I didn't remember right away what day it was in the morning. That made me a little sad.
A day that brought a lot of people from all over the world together in support and sadness. Mom remembers she was in her classroom teaching when one of the other teachers came to tell her - she knew that our Dad was in NYC on business that day. It was a long long time before we were able to talk to him but thankfully he was OK.
Truly a day that will never be forgotten.

It was a day that I will never forget, both because of the sheer horror, and the amazing number of little things I saw during the day where people helped each other (and I was in Atlanta on business, not anywhere near the attacks).
You described the day so vividly. I wasn't part of the blog world yet so I found out from a phone call from a friend telling me to turn on the TV right now. Oh my - a day that changed our country.
I remember stepping outside my house, watching the birds going about their business like nothing had changed, and that simple thing seeming so odd.
I'm grateful for my internet friends too, and for your friendship.
It's a day I often wish to forget, but with the horror came an outpouring of kindness. The range of what we're capable of is quite strange. I'm glad to experience the kindness side of things here on the blogosphere!
That is a beautiful tribute. Nobody could ever forget that date, the time and the horror. We will always remember. We thank all of the troops that are still fighting for our safety. Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
We remember here too.
Lots of love, Gail (and Bertie, who of course doesn't actually remember, but wants everyone to live together in peace, well, apart that is from him and Daisy Dachshund, whom he still loves to torment...)
Thank you for sharing your story. We must never forget.

We watched too. And we were very sad.
Our thoughts are with you all this special day.
Take care
Kisses and hugs
