Hamish Westie

Hello Everyone:

Here is a photo of my dear friend Hamish, who passed yesterday.  We were out when the news came in, and although we somewhat expected it, it was a terrible shock to me.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved Hamish and his Westie ways.  We would argue, tell each other off (him to me quite gently, me, not so!), talk about books, the news of the day, the quality of the snow, not much that we didn't discuss.

I tried to talk him out of being angry with Gail about silly things, about apologizing when very rarely he bit someone, I just can't imagine who I can talk to like that anymore.  Who will tell me when I'm wrong?  Who will make me laugh when they do tell me off.?  Who will have his wisdom?  Who will have his Temper?

I just don't know how it can be done, that I will be able to get along without Hamish.  He was my best boy.

Here is part of a little poem for Gail fromThe House Dogs Grave by Robinson Jeffers

You were never master, but friend.  I was your friend.  I loved you well, and was loved.  Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end.  If this is my end, I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still Yours.

My Mom was telling a friend about Hamish, and that he wasn't well.  Mom said when he goes I will feel just as bad as when I lost Otis the Scottie at age 16.

So here we are, both feeling empty and wishing Hamish would have stayed just a little longer.

Kisses,
Stella and Jo

Hi Stella,

Hamish was my wise wee mentor, who taught me all things about being a good Scots doggie. Like you, I don't know what I'll do without my West Highland cousin.

Your pal,

Petey

Dear Jo and Stella
I've been holding it all together quite well this morning as I respond to all the folk who have posted beautiful tributes to Hamish on their blogs, but now that I have reached this one I am having a hard time seeing the computer as the tears are again streaming down my face.
Stella was our first friend in the dog-blogging community, and has been consistently the sweetest and kindest of Hamish's many pals. There is something about the way her blog is written that I can't quite define but is so full of warmth and love that it always lifts my spirits to read it.
The lines of the poem you posted today are so fitting and a great comfort. It's not one I had come across before but I shall look out the rest of the poem.
Hamish was my first ever dog, although I had fantasized about having one since childhood. It was only when I moved to Aberdeen from London in 1999 and had a house with a garden for the first time and lived near work, that taking on a dog became a possibility. I adopted Hamish when he was nearly four years old, and over the past decade he wove himself into the fabric of my life so successfully that I feel bereft without him.
But I did so much enjoy his companionship, and he gave me so much joy that, despite the sadness of this week, I know that in time (although) not immediately, I shall be looking for anther dog, who will also no doubt have a blog. Meanwhile, I shall continue to look forward every day to reading about dear, sweet Stella (and of course Ali Z!)
Jo, although I have never met you , I feel you have been such a friend to Hamish and me, as you have to so many other people and dogs, and I want to thank you from bottom of my heart.
Much love,
Gail.

You said it. Those left behind feel the emptiness, but Hamish is better off now. :( I wish I had met him, but all the tributes helped form a picture of your furiend. I'm sorry you miss your furiend.
