Shed-ding!

Hello my friends:  My Mom and I are having an endless battle about my endless shedding of fuhr!
She says all she does is sweep and vacuum and vacuum and sweep and STILL there is dog hair in the salad, in the cookie dough, and on the soap.  Everywhere.
I am growing new short curly hair on my back and she tried to get a picture of it, but the battery is almost out so we are recharging.
So my Mom for her most recent pups, had all short hair Scotties that needed to be clipped and did not leave bushels of hair laying around here and there for her to dispose of.
I hate being brushed, so I am forced to fight her about this.
She hates my fighting her, so she hates brushing too.
She claims I have been shedding seriously ever since I arrived here.
I was newly spayed so Princess Eva's Mom said that was a good reason for blowing coat.
So she can understand that.
What she doesn't understand  is that the shedding never seems to stop.
You know I am Border Collie and Lab mix, so is that the reason I shed constantly?
Do I have some serious condition that causes this and do I need to see a Vet?

We are grateful for your attention and any advice you may dish out (we'll try not to get hair in it!)

We wish you a most Happy Sunday, here in the land of rain and soon to be snow!
Kisses,

Stella, who still has lots of hair!

Hey Stella, Yes I think that it is because you are mixed with border collie and lab. My mom complains because I (Maya) shed alot too! But thats only cuz I am german shepherd. My mom also thought that I was lacking something in my diet and thats why I was shedding alot. But that wasnt it. Later on my shedding slowed down.

Hope you have a great day

I heard that doggies who live cushy lives inside sometimes just shed all the time. I know I do. And that labradork! Sheesh! Little black tumbleweeds everywhere!

Hi Stella, we have a furminator and also the furminator spray - when this is sprayed on and left to dry and then we are furminated we shed a lot less.
The problem is we could really be doing with being furminated twice a week!!!!
We do so understand the big about hairs everywhere - when we first arrived it was blowing through the house like tumbleweed!
It is nowhere near as bad as it used to be but we do still shed.
Good luck.

Hi Stella
I thought this was going to be an post about sheds, which I find very fascinating places. As for shedding fur, this is one of the few subjects on which I do NOT claim to be an expert, as Westies are basically a non-shedding breed. But perhaps you could try to persuade your Mom to learn to love cookies with Stella fur incorporated??
Cheers, H.

Our human sister has a black lab and she complains about Gypsy's shedding almost as much as our Mom does with ours. We hate brushing too. So Mom just keeps vacuuming away.

Hope you are having a good Sunday - we got MORE rain.

Trixie has always been a big shedder -- clumps of hair everywhere even after she gets a brushing. She is (probably) a chow-shepherd mix so she is double-coated and most of the shedding seems to come from the undercoat as it's mostly brown.

Well.... first off, let me just say your mom doesn't REALLY know what shedding is like until she's had four Sibes blowing coat at the same time. But then, this could explain why our mom has 3 vacuums and Zim has one.
Secondly, our great brother Booter was a Lab/Aussie mix and he could do some shedding when he felt like it.
Thirdly - it's VERY normal to be shedding right now. You're making room for your winter coat. Humans shed their fur in the Fall, too. Seriously.
Fear not, Mom-o-Stella!

Hello Stella's Mom,
My big brother shed's a lot. Mommy calls them love furs whenever they appear on clothes. Mommy has gone through four vacuum cleaners this years. Apparently, Eskie hair can break vacuum cleaners. I don't really shed, but my big brother can shed very well. It is just a seasonal, um ou, well, an all year thing.

Mom us heelers shed all year round too. Luckily Mom has no carpet and we have recently gotten a leather couch. She is also constantly vacuuming up fur in every corner... See you are NOT alone..

It's perfectly natural to shed all year round. I do it, and my great-sister Maxine used to do it too. I wouldn't worry.

I'm afraid all that shedding is normal Stella. Your Mom needs to learn to love it I think... sorry.

Our momma totally understands! We have tumbleweeds rolling through all the time.

Brice had a major coat blow after the big snip (his hip bones were kind of sticking out) but now he is a 24/7/52 type of shedder. i try to retain my coat but then it gets matty.

No advice other than brushing and more brushing.

Hi Stella! It's the same too over here. We dont have snow where we are but i guess my shedding makes up for it for the house!

Hey there Stella
We had a little friend some time ago who looked just like you! Her Mom also battled with shedding throughout her life and there wasn't much she could do about it. But WE shed a lot of fur too and our mom really battles. Sorry, no advice here except to live with it.
Love you just the way you are!

Hey Stella,

My dog has thyroid problems, and when she sheds much more than usual, it usually means that her thyroid levels are off. It's something to consider.

Oh how I can relate!

Hoover sheds constantly. But he does love to be brushed. I have a mitt like think that I use so it is like he is being petted and the fur stickes to the mitt. I furminate him outside and then we find the fur in birds nests in the spring.

Even with all the brushing there is still Hoover fur all over the house.

What a huge bummer girl! Have you had any rashes lately? Our Labs lost fur after a rash outbreak this summer...

Mom uses a Furminator on Boomer and likes it a lot. Even Boomer likes it! The first time she used it, it took out enough hair to make a whole 'nother cat! BOL!

I shed pretty constantly too. My mom got a blower for her birthday and she uses that on me instead of a brush since the blower is more effective and I don't hate it as much.

I think the best solution would be for moms to leave us pups alone!
